On a real site this list comes straight from the rescue's own software — Petfinder's free API or a Shelterluv embed — so staff never type an animal twice. On this demonstration it is a staff-edited sheet with the same fields.
What adoption includes
The fee covers: spay or neuter, the vaccines due so far, a microchip registered to you, deworming, a flea treatment, and for dogs the first county licence. Still yours: the rabies booster and any vaccine due after adoption (the entry and the contract give the dates), the licence renewal, and the vet you choose from then on. Every animal leaves with its records; we do not print look-alike vet records on this demonstration.
What the state asks of a rescue

Spayed or neutered before adoption, or a signed agreement to do it within ninety days with a deposit. Every animal here goes home already done, so the agreement is rarely needed. Source: the same page.
These are the rules as the rescue reads them, with the official page beside each. This site reports them; it does not advise on them, and the state's page is the one that counts.
What this page tells them
"Animal shelter near me" is searched about 673,000 times a month in the United States — roughly 360 searches for every rescue of this size. So the home page tells search engines, in their own format, that this is an animal shelter at 418 Mill Street, open Thursday to Sunday from 12 to 5, and this page carries a list of the animals available today, written from the same sheet staff edit.
Nothing here is hand-typed twice: when an animal goes home, the list search engines read changes with the page. You can see the raw data with the browser's "view source", under application/ld+json.
Apply to adopt
Open this from an entry and the animal is already chosen. The form checks your household against the entry and tells you what the adoption coordinator will want to talk through — it does not say no. Demonstration: it sends nothing and stores nothing.
What happens next, and when
Within two business days the adoption coordinator calls or emails. If the animal is pending, your application waits in order and you are told where you stand rather than left to wonder.
A meeting at Mill Street with everyone who lives with you, including your dog if you have one. For a cat, we ask about the room it will start in.
If it fits, the contract, the fee, the vaccine and licence dates, and the animal — usually the same day. If it does not, we say why and suggest who might.
Thirty days later a call to ask how it is going; an animal can come back to us at any point in its life, no questions.
