Fifty dollars is one animal's vaccines.

An animal in our care cost about $917 last year, from the county van to the day it went home: veterinary care first, then the people, the building and the food. Adoption fees cover a fifth of it. Gifts cover most of the rest, and this page says exactly what.

What a gift pays for

$50 is one animal's vaccines, $95 is a cat's whole adoption package, $250 a dog's, and $917 is one animal's entire stay. Monthly gifts are what let the vet say yes to a surgery without a phone call first.

$917 sponsors one animal from intake to adoption. We tell you which one, send the entry, and write when it goes home. The longest-waiting animal is on the plate above; sponsorships go to the animals who have waited longest first.
